There are three phases in the competition:
1) Preselection by a recording. A maximum of 12 competitors will be selected. The tape must consist of the following compositions:
Nicolas-Antoine Lebègue: I ton: Prélude, Récits de voix humaine, Tierce en taille, Dialogue (Les pièces d'orgue / I livre d'orgue)
Johann Sebastian Bach: Allein Gott in der Höh' sei Ehr'(Clavierübung III: BWV 676)
Johann Ludvig Krebs: Praeludium in f (Breitkopf, Nr. 6.1)

2)

First round in the Kotka church 21.-23.11.2002. From the
players admitted to this round not more than 6 will be se- lected for the finals. The participants must perform a recital programme of free choice consisting of compositions from each repertoire group. The length of the programme is not to exceed 60 minutes. (The length is the interval between the beginning and the end of the performance.)

3)

Final round in the Kotka church 28.-29.11.2002. The programme consists of two parts that are to be performed consecu tively
in the order chosen by the competitor.
First part: A coherent recital programme of 40-45 minutes. The compositions are to be chosen from at least two of the above mentioned repertoire groups and must be different from those in the first round.
Second part: 3 movements from a preselected J.S. Bach cantata (see below): sinfonia with organ obbligato, recitative, and aria with organ obbligato. The competitor will play the organ solos and organ continuo in the key called for by the Kotka organ pitch (Chorton A-465) and lead the ensemble. The organizers will provide the singers and a baroque orchestra (A-415), who have acquainted themselves with the music. The Bach compositions are to be selected from the following threealternatives:
a) BWV 49 "Ich geh und suche mit Verlangen" (Dialogus): Sinfonia (nr 1), recitative "Mein Glaube hat mich selbst so angezogen" (nr 5), and aria "Dich hab ich je und je geliebet" (nr 6)
b) BWV 169 "Gott soll allein mein Herze haben": Sinfonia (nr 1), recitative "Was ist die Liebe Gottes" (nr 4), and aria "Stirb in mir, Welt und alle deine Liebe" (nr 5)
c) BWV 188 "Gott soll allein mein Herze haben": Sinfonia (nr 1) (Concerto for Harpsichord d, BWV 1052, 3rd movement), recitative "Gott meint es gut mit jedermann" (nr 3), and aria "Unforschlich ist die Weise" (nr 4)

The competitors will be selected in the preselection round. The recordings will be judged anonymously. A competitor's placement in the preselection round will not have any bearing on the final result. The winner of the competition will be chosen from those in the final round taking into account the results of both the first and the second round. The works performed in the first round and the final round are to be announced by the competitor to the organizers 48 hours before the actual performance. The first round and the final round are public events. All competitors re-ceiving a prize are under obligation to perform in the final concert on 30.11.2002. The rights to broadcast or televise the competition are kept by the organizers.
