There are three phases in the competition:

1) Preselection by a recording. A maximum of 12 competitors will be selected. The tape must consist of the following compositions:
Nicolas de Grigny: Verbum supernum
Johann Sebastian Bach: Prelude & Fugue in A major (BWV 536), An wasserflüssen Babylon (BWV 653)
Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy: Sonata III in A major, op. 65 nr.3, without the final movement "Andante tranquillo"

2)

First round in the Kotka church 23.-25.4.2005. The participants must perform a recital programme of free choice consisting of compositions from repertoire groups 1-3. The length of the programme should not exceed 60 minutes. (The length is the interval between the beginning and the end of the performance.) From the players admitted to this round 6 will be selected for the finals.

3)

Final round in the Kotka church 27.-28.4.2005. The programme consists of two parts that are to be performed consecutively in the order chosen by the competitor.
First part: A coherent recital programme of 40-45 minutes. The compositions are to be chosen from at least two of the above mentioned repertoire groups and must be different from those in the first round.
Second part: an organ concerto by George Frideric Handel. The competitor must play the organ part in the key called for by the Kotka organ pitch (Chorton A-465) and lead the ensemble. The organizers will provide a baroque type orchestra (A-415), which has rehearsed the music. The Handel organ concerto is to be selected from the following three alternatives:
a) Konzert g-Moll/G-Dur op. 4 Nr.1 HWV 289 :
Larghetto e staccato, Allegro, Adagio, Andante
b) Konzert A-Dur Nr.14 HWV 296a :
Largo e staccato, Andante, Grave, Allegro
c) Konzert A-Dur op. 7 Nr.2 HWV 307:
Ouverture, A tempo ordinario, Organo ad libitum, Allegro

The competitors will be selected in the preselection round. The recordings will be judged anonymously. A competitor's placement in the preselection round will not have any bearing on the final result. The winner of the competition will be chosen from those in the final round taking into account the results of both the first and the second round. The works performed in the first round and the final round are to be announced by the competitor to the organizers 48 hours before the actual performance. The first round and the final round are public events. All competitors receiving a prize are under obligation to perform in the final concert on 29.4.2005. The rights to broadcast, televise and record the competition are kept by the organizers.
